The grand tapestries displayed in UK royal courts and museums profoundly inspired me. Their monumental size and exquisite textures led me to explore the interplay between visual texture, narrative content, and physical scale—how these elements collectively shape perception and emotional resonance.

During my UK exchange, I read Sianne Ngai's “The Cuteness of the Avant-Garde”. The concept of "cuteness" fascinates me—how it simultaneously evokes sympathy and tenderness, yet provokes an almost aggressive impulse to interact (like the urge to squeeze a cute animal, or in my case, to touch—even vigorously rub—a soft tapestry's surface). This tension between attraction and latent violence became the core theme of my work.

The use of hand-tufted tapestries emphasize softness and tactility through rounded "cute" aesthetics. Yet their massive scale and melancholic undertones create striking contrasts. The tension between the inviting texture, monumental visual impact, and somber narrative produces an emotional complexity—blending epic grandeur with intimacy, fate with fragility.

Like the cat in my work that can't hold onto Miss Cherry, a desire forever just beyond reach. The artworks inherently resist touch, though their plush surfaces invite tactile aggression, they remain untouchable behind exhibition boundaries. These contradictions—between softness and restraint, cuteness and sorrow, accessibility and distance—form my central exploration, challenging viewers' expectations to evoke deeper, more nuanced responses.
